Crossrail is the biggest construction project in Europe and one of the largest single infrastructure investments ever undertaken in the U.K.
Oander’s client was awarded this £300m design, fit out and commissioning package consisting of 21km of the twin tunnels that stretch under London, with track and power equipment necessary for Crossrail trains to operate from 2018.
The scope of works will see the JV installing over 40km of track, together with rigid overhead conductors, a system that is being used for the first time in the U.K. to power mainline trains through tunnels.
The fit out package requires over 50,000 cubic metres of concrete to be delivered by a unique concrete train, as well as the installation of 48 ventilation rants, 40km of walkways, 66 drainage pumps, 40km of fire mains and lighting throughout the entire length.
Working with the Joint Venture responsible for fitting out and commissioning the Crossrail tunnels, Oander’s Procurement Manager imbedded themselves into their team to assist, ensuring best value was achieve when procuring and purchasing all the large trade packages.
As part of their remit, it also included providing support and guidance to those more junior and assisting the commercial team on day to day change control and variations to existing contracts.
