Oander Commences Asbestos Removal and Demolition Works in Camberley Town Centre.

22 July, 2025 by Barry Mason

Major regeneration works are now well underway in Camberley town centre, as the transformation of key areas including London Road and the High Street has begun in earnest. The initial phase of the redevelopment includes the systematic strip-out of fixtures, fittings, and the safe removal of asbestos from several derelict buildings – a critical first step toward revitalising the heart of the town.

This specialist work is being carried out by local contractor R Collard Ltd, a company with extensive experience in environmental services and demolition. All asbestos removal is being conducted under the strict supervision of Life Environmental Services, independent asbestos consultants ensuring full compliance with health and safety standards. These operations are paving the way for the safe and controlled demolition of several structures, including the landmark former Allders department store.

On Friday 18th July, the site welcomed several elected Councillors who were invited to tour the area ahead of the upcoming demolition phase. This included a rare opportunity to walk through the historic Allders building, which is scheduled to be demolished early next year. Their visit marks a significant milestone in the project, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between public officials, local authorities, and private sector partners.

Oander is leading the delivery of this ambitious town centre regeneration and have been appointed by Surrey Heath Borough Council. Oander is providing Project Management, Quantity Surveying, and Principal Designer services, ensuring the project is delivered efficiently, safely, and within budget.

The wider redevelopment, which aims to breathe new life into Camberley’s central retail and commercial areas, will offer a more vibrant, accessible, and modern environment for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

This marks a major step forward in Surrey Heath Borough Council’s long-term vision to create a more sustainable and economically dynamic town centre — and with the expertise of Oander Ltd and its partners, that vision is now well on its way to becoming a reality.
